GENERIC WAVE 100% - [EXTREME DEMON] - by Pennutoh & Enlex
246I beat this extreme demon a few days ago and decided to upload today because of how little I've been uploading recently, which I apologize for. I've had trouble sticking with levels and this is something that I'm trying to work on, and I'll (hopefully) be uploading levels of this difficulty to help myself get more acquainted with that idea.
With that being said, I really like this level! It's my favorite Sonic Wave remake conceptually, and also one of my favorite joke levels in the game. It builds wonderfully off of its basis of "generic levels" while also looking pretty good, especially in the 2nd half. I think the 2nd wave is a bit out of place, but the level is quirky enough to justify it.
Overall, I think this level is really solid visually. The subject of the parody is clear, but each part has something unique it brings to the table that pushes it above and beyond just the typical "generic" style - the curves in the first cube, the glow flashes in the ship, or the lines in the first wave, for example. Although the 2nd wave is definitely my least favorite part of the level visually, it manages to feel fresh with its lively portal movements, despite its dreary color palette compared to the rest of the level. You can tell that a lot of thought and effort went into making this level work really well on its own, even without the context of serving as a parody of generic levels.
From a playing perspective, I was very pleasantly surprised. I genuinely found this level enjoyable despite being heavily chokepoint based. I think this is far better than Sonic Wave, although it does introduce some new flaws -- one timing in the first cube is super luck-based (fps bug), 49-52 was buffed too much, the second wave is WAY too difficult, and the last cube is a bit too hard. This is counterbalanced by its nerfs which make the level a lot easier to sit through, especially the predrop. Overall, I would recommend this, but not as a new hardest.
