In the last force wipe the rust developers added a high cpu priority mode for rust. Before this you had to go in to registry editor in order to change it from normal to high priority.
This should be 99% safe for everyone. If you notice that you get worse performance, try setting the priority back to "normal" (could happen if you play on a lower-end system).
Another thing to note is this will most likely give you a boost in performance, though it might not be super noticable. However it should make your game feel a bit more stable and run more smoothly.
