Hey Conrads!

Per user request I cobbled together another tutorial by the world's most idiot computer brains genius, me, gaming fool turbles celbor.

I have been playing through sid meier's pirates lately. A game that for whatever reason hasn't been playing nice with the latest versions of my video drivers (MESA). Multiple times I have had to mess around with different wine configurations to keep the gaming working.

As a result you may have noticed the video upload schedule for that series is a little spotty.

The goal of this tutorial is to show you how to troubleshoot wine issues as they arise. I go step-by-step through the process I took to get the game to work, including how E-sync, windows API version, and Wine version have an impact.

The software I am using that you will need:

Lutris: https://lutris.net/
Wine: https://www.winehq.org/
Game software, in this case I was just using sid meier's pirates! Live the life!
I got it from GOG.com. (Yeah I paid money for it).

If you can't find lutris for your distro you can always download the source code and compile it yourself. I made a guide on doing this a while back, and honestly, sometimes I just prefer to compile from source.

If you’re curious about how I made this video, or what I’m running on. I am only using FOSS software ( Except for the games themselves) for recording. Check it all out:
