Gex Trilogy
Gex Request Playthrough | Part 1: Conquer the Cemetery

Looks like I'm now moving onto the next request playthrough. Let me tell you, this is going to be one I am completely new with. Welcome to The Gex Trilogy.

The Gex Trilogy was released last month on all modern platforms. But if you want to break it down, it consists of three games in the trilogy. They consist of Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. We're starting things off with the first game.

Gex was released in April 1995 for the Panasonic 3DO, a console developed by former EA executive Trip Hawkins. The game would end up getting ported to PS1, Sega Saturn and even PC. It was made during the mascot wars of the 1990s as companies made mascots hoping to rival Mario & Sonic. Originally it was going to be released in June 1994, it was delayed twice. The game's development took 21 months, filled with time constraints and a limited development team that made things difficult. Some features were cut just to get the game out, but those features were re-added later by a team who also included several secrets. When it was released, it was well received favorably. The 3DO version sold over a million copies, becoming a best seller and its success would lead to two sequels.

It would be 30 years later that the game would appear on modern hardware courtesy of Limited Run and their Carbon Engine. I'm surprised and since I saw Cammy conquer it, I may as well get it done.

We begin with the first level, The Cemetery. As far as the story goes, we play as Gex who ends us getting sucked into the media dimension by it's overlord Rez. Now Gex must travese the media dimension to find remote controls so he can be able to take Rez down and return home. Gex is voiced by comedian Dana Gould. The game is a platformer but it's a challenging sort since you need to rely on your skills to find remotes and take down the bad guys. Not a pretty thing and this is my first try playing this series. Wish me luck. Also, there are bonus levels where if you perfect them, you get a piece of a remote. What for you ask? That's for much later.

With one world down, we move onto the next, New Toonland in Part 2.
