Request Playthrough | Part 1: Trouble at Port Royal
Difficulty: Standard (Normal)
Remember this? I did a first hour playthrough but now we're going all in. I may as well because why the hell not. Plus, @bigcammy007 requested me to do this so I can't say no. Welcome to Captain Blood.
This game has a unique history when it comes to it's development. Before that though, this game is based on the novel of the same name, written by Rafael Sabatini. The novel centers on Captain Blood and it follows his adventures in the Spanish Main, set in 1685. Anyway the game was originally going to be developed by Akella in the early 2000s. The game was going to be released for gen 7 consoles. But sadly, problems happened. Development came to a halt in 2010, due to the game's publisher Playlogic declaring bankruptcy. It would be abandoned for more than a decade until last year. The game had been saved from development hell and to make things even better, it would be remastered by SNEG along with several Akella veterans at SeaWolf Studio. Honestly, I'm thankful this game finally got released.
But anyway, this game is a pirate hack-and-slash similar to such games such as the Greek God of War games & Ubisoft's Prince of Persia Trilogy. It can be a bit rough at times but it's fun. You earn movie by taking down your enemies or finding treasure chests hidden in the many areas. You use the treasure to unlock new moves and abilities. And believe me, unlocking new moves and improving them can not only make things better but keep you alive. Captain Blood has access to his corsair blade but also a gun he can use to shoot enemies. Not only that but he can use a multitude of different weapons. Depending on the situation, it can change his moves. Overall, it offers a sense of variety in terms of how he plays.
In this part, we focus on the beginning in Port Royal. This one is basically a tutorial of sorts where you learn the controls and how everything works. Won't be pretty, that's for sure. We'll continue onwards in Part 2.
