GHASTLY MARTIN - Blender Animation
A madman, his menacing machine and a malevolent monster meet in a violent and wacky battle.
A monster hunter who finds that his custom car of demonically-assisted carnage has lead to some negative impressions sets out to slay a creepy creature from out of a nightmare using only his wits and a variety of impractical weapons. Sometimes, however, raw determination might not be enough...
This Blender animation is the result of nearly 3 years of learning the software largely from scratch. With no experience in character animation, rigging, particle effects, lighting, UVing and very little in the way of modelling and texturing, I was determined to complete this project no matter how long it took.
The goalposts moved several times over the course of the years I spent working on it. Initially I just wanted to make a scene for the car I had modelled to be parked in.
Then, well, you'd need a driver to sit in the seat and hit the buttons.
But the vehicle has weapons - what's he going to be firing at?
Well cool, here's a monster. But what's the monster doing?
None of this was planned. That'll probably be pretty obvious. I just had an idea and... kept adding stuff. Now after three years, there's an animation.
The rough edges are so rough you could use them as sandpaper. There's so many changes, reiterations, restarts, redos, mess ups, shut downs, give ups, wasted work - I've got all the files and backups to prove it. "Perfection is the enemy of progress", as a friend quoted. I love my silly little project, but it's time to let it spread its wings. Maybe it'll fall out of the nest and go splat. Hopefully people like it! It doesn't matter, really. I did it for me.
Thank you to my wonderful wife for being my muse and a cow, for all my friends for their support and Dad for getting me into animation. You might not be around to see it, but I hope - somehow - the universe can get it to you.
