Ghostbusters: Afterlife is the... 3rd movie in the Ghostbusters franchise. We don't talk about Ghostbusters 2016 (Answer the Call). Jason Reitman directs this 2021 soft-reboot of sorts. It mostly follows a new generation of potential Ghostbusters and brings back some old favorites. The storyline will be very familiar to fans of the original movie but the heavy dose of nostalgia is starting to grow stale in these movies. Jurassic Park, Halloween, Scream, Home Alone and many many more properties continue to use nostalgia to bring people back into the theaters. I would much prefer a unique story that is more inline with the humor and sillyness of the originals. Ghostbusters: Afterlife is a more serious, dramatic film that may bring audience members to tears but leaves me a little annoyed at the approach and missed opportunities for a true Ghostbusters sequel.
