Gloomy but it's home - Ryan Leach October 2022 Composing Competition
This is my submission to Ryan Leach's composition competition! You're supposed to write a piece of music that's inspired by this artwork. The conditions are that you write your music on music sheets and have to have instruments that contain either of the following:
1 Flute
1 Oboe
1 Bb Clarinet
1 Bassoon
2 Bb Trumpets
1 Tenor Trombone
1 Bass Trombone
2 French Horns
1 Harp
5 Violins I
4 Violins II
4 Violas
4 Violoncellos
1 Contrabass
1 Percussionist (Timpani, Snare Drum, Suspended Cymbal, Crash Cymbal, Triangle, Tambourine, Woodblock)
Reason being is because the winner gets the chance to have their music played by a real orchestra that uses these instruments.
As I'm working on my own original series and write music for that, I also need to learn how to write for sheet music, and I feel like this competition was just the motivation I needed to learn how to do it! The original submission was written in Musescore (Originally NCH crescendo but that was quickly abandoned), but just in case I don't win, I made this version with orchestral VST from Kontakt, Directwave and UVI Workstation that sounds like the next best thing!
