God of War - How to defeat Grendel Of The Ashes and Frost
Grendel of the Ashes and Grendel of the Frost are two boss characters you’re going to be going up against in God of War, in the Tyr’s Vault section of the game. In this God of War Grendel boss guide, we’ll be walking you through how to defeat the pair of bosses as smoothly as possible, pointing out weak points and powerful moves, as well as the rewards you’ll gain for defeating the pair of trolls.
God of War Grendel of the Ashes and Frost Boss Guide
This boss fight kicks off right after you’ve made it through the Tyr’s Vault section of God of War, so if you need help on making it through the area prior to this boss encounter, head over to our God of War Tyr’s Vault walkthrough guide. For defeating the pair of bosses however, Kratos is going to have to be quick on his feet.
To begin with, only Grendel of the Ashes is active, while his partner slumbers in a corner of the area. You’ve got to use this time wisely, and lay into Grendel of the Ashes with as many attack as possible, as quickly as possible, before his other half awakens. Even when Grendel of the Frost awakens however, we’d still recommend sticking to Grendel of the Ashes, even though his other half will begin to heal him.
Your objective here with Kratos is to basically defeat Grendel of the Ashes as quickly as possible, before turning your attention to Grendel of the Frost. Don’t worry about the former boss getting back up after he’s defeated however, as he’ll stay down for good once Kratos has defeated him.
You’ll find that all your attacks to Grendel of the Ashes have actually damaged his other half as well in the process, so the second boss has dramatically reduced health by the time you turn your attention to him. All you need to do is finish him off, execution style or with the Blades of Chaos, and Kratos and Atreus will be free to proceed.

God of War (commonly referred to as God of War 4 or God of War PS4 is an upcoming third-person action-adventure video game developed by Santa Monica Studio and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE). It will be released on April 20, 2018 for the PlayStation 4 (PS4) console. It is the eighth installment in the God of War series, the eighth chronologically, and the sequel to 2010's God of War III. The story is a new direction for the series, as it is loosely based on Norse mythology—all previous games were based on Greek mythology. Series protagonist Kratos returns as the main character, and he now has a son named Atreus. Kratos acts as a mentor and protector to his son, and has to master the rage that has driven him for many years.
Described as a "reimagining" for the franchise, the gameplay has been completely rebuilt, with one major change being that Kratos no longer uses his signature double-chained blades. He instead uses a magical battle axe called the Leviathan Axe. Another notable change is the camera; the game uses an over-the-shoulder free camera as opposed to the fixed cinematic camera seen in the previous entries. There are also elements similar to role playing games and Kratos' son Atreus can provide assistance during gameplay. A short text-based game called God of War: A Call from the Wilds was released on February 1, 2018 through Facebook Messenger, and follows Atreus on his first adventure into the Norse wilds.
God of War received critical acclaim, being praised for its combat, visuals, world design, story, and characters. Receiving a 95/100 from review aggregator Metacritic, it is the highest-scoring game in the franchise. It has the second highest score of all time for a PlayStation 4 game (tied with The Last of Us Remastered), and the highest score for an original, non-remastered PlayStation 4 game. It is currently the highest rated PlayStation 4 game of 2018, as well as the highest rated game of 2018, regardless of platform.
