God of War | The Tyrannical Father
Welcome to Gaming University where we discuss the Philosophy and Literature present within Video Games. The goal is to use Science, History, Theology, and other disciplines in order to gain a greater understanding of the story found within the games we cherish. Video Games are a form of Literature just like Books or Film and should be appreciated as such.
In today's video we finally return to the God of War series. Mythology was always my first literary love so taking a look at these characters through the lens of archetypes is something I enjoy. In the most recent installment of the God of War franchise, we see a more personal story involving a Father, a Mother, and a Son.
We will focus on the Father Archetype along with its positive and negative traits. The primary negative aspect seen throughout he narrative of the game is the Tyrannical Father. Both Kratos and the primary antagonist Odin resonate with the Ouroboric Father. But one does so in a negative way. At the end of the day, what is the difference between a positive and negative Father? We'll find out in today's installment of my God of War Analysis.
