Goldeneye Source 5.0 - Gameplay (When Source was king)
In case you live under a rock: Goldeneye Source is a mod project that attempts to blend the multiplayer mechanics of the N64 game with the Source engine. A simple arena shooter at it's core but one that proves that a shotgun or rocket launcher to the face never goes out of style.
Check it out here: http://www.moddb.com/mods/goldeneye-s... (Yeah, no steam install and runs from an outside executable. This is old school man!). As a bonus you only need the freely available Source SDK 2007 to play.
Remember the heyday of mods (which I tend to put starting with Battlefield 1942 rolling all the way up to the first few years of half-life 2). After Desert Combat for 1942, it was like all bets were off. You could leverage an existing engine to create whatever you damn well please.
The source engine was the final hurrah of this era after which these wackos with wayyy too much time on their hands made the jump to full fledged indie development but damn was it good. Dystopia, Empires, Eternal Slience (Video is still on my channel nudge *nudge*), Source Forts, responsible for many many hours lost. All kinda went bye bye when steam became a full retail platform.
Kinda makes Goldeneye Source a swansong of a bygone age. Crapton of carefully constructed assets held together by the familiar movement and gun-play of the source engine. Oh and the soundtrack remixes and original music kicks ass too.
