Gondor Gambolling 66: In which Gryfflet decides that discretion is the better part of valour
0Because of server maintenance, Gryfflet has to wait longer than usual for our arrival, so we occupy ourselves with some Lore Discussion. When we are finally able to rejoin him, he is ready to scout the enemy camp in search of a way in to confront the kidnapper. Gondrad, glum as ever, sends us in to make the deal. Glánhar's sons, the kidnap victims, have differing views on how to proceed. Gryfflet recalls his previous efforts at escorting prisoners through hostile territory and elects to pay the ransom. Once safely outside he proceeds to attack the inhabitants of the camp as mandated by another Quest, which affords us the time to consider another Lore Question. then sets off to rendezvous with the brothers. To his considerable lack of surprise he is ambushed on the way but manages to defeat them and find the meeting point, at which point he discovers that there is a third surviving brother who needs to be located, so of course they ask Gryfflet to do so. At this point we run out of time so they will need to defer their reunion until our next session.

"Hey puppy, look at you with your little armour!"
"Who's shooting at me?"
"That tree is insufficiently bent!"
"OK, just you three and this goat?"
Lore discussed this week returned to the subject of literacy or lack thereof in Middle-earth, and particularly in Hobbits, and then we considered the history of the latter and how they might have made their living; mention was also made of the founding of Gondor and Eriador. We took some time to consider the situation of the Professor's other character, Wigend, who will be embarking on his annual marathon this coming weekend.
