In 1987, after Sean Astin (Mikey) announced on a radio talk show that a sequel the 1985 film The Goonies was "definitely going to happen", Konami saw fit to develop a Goonies II game on Famicom. This is the pretty awesome commercial for said Goonies 2 game.
Even after the Goonies II film rumors proved unsubstantiated, Konami rolled onward with Goonies 2, releasing it early in the year.
Not wanting to waste one of their five allowed NES releases, Konami in America decided to veto the original Goonies on NES and release Goonies II - a move that confused and still confuses many to this day, since there is no Goonies 1 NES game, and there is no Goonies 2 film.
But Goonies 1 DID show up in Nintendo Vs and PlayChoice 10 machines, confusingly enough.
