Reading from the First Letter of Saint Paul to the Thessalonians 3:7-13
Psalm 89
Reading from the Holy Gospel according to Saint Matthew 24:42-51
Jesus said to his disciples:
"Keep awake, for you do not know on what day your Lord is coming.
Know that if the master of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept awake and would not have let his house be broken into.
Therefore you also must be ready, for the Son of Man is coming at an hour you least expect.
Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master appoints to give his servants their food at the proper time?
Blessed is that servant whom his master finds so doing when he comes. Truly, I tell you, he will put him in charge of all his possessions.
But if that wicked servant says to himself, 'My master is delaying his coming,' and begins to beat his fellow servants and eat and drink with drunkards, on a day and at an hour when he least expects it, his master will come and punish him severely and make him share the fate of the hypocrites.
