Part 6. This game is pretty damn good. I wasn't sure going in, but it's damn fine. It certainly is Euorjank and is not perfect, but it really is a great time. I started out going the magic route and feel that it was a great choice. It gave me the option of being able to switch on the fly from close quarters melee to range. I could also buff defense and heal. Though I rarely did. The beginning of the game was pretty tough. You're pretty weak and don't dodge all that well, but once I unlocked the Lightning Dash I started to feel pretty good. Near the start of the game I wasn't sure if I was going to the right places and doing what the game wanted. I believe it was intentionally left open and you could approach the main missions in whatever order you wanted. But everything was extremely tanky and would kill my party members off really quickly. Most likely the difficulty. For a hilariously good portion of the game my teammates spent most fights napping on the ground as I cleaned everything up. They do get stronger over time and as I gained more powers the quicker fights would go. Once I unlocked Shadow Burst and then Storm, it was pretty hard for enemies to hit me. I did a lot though. I mean a lot. It was pretty rough going early on. I relied heavily on Siora. She did have some healing, I just liked having her in the party since she was a local and our decisions were directly affecting her and her people. My other companion I switched out for whatever I thought would fit the situation or for just fun. I love the Mass Effect approach to getting to know your group and them having personal missions. It really feels like forming bonds and goes a long way for immersion. The main quests and companion quests are pretty deep. You also get some side-quests from the governors, but largely that's it. There are a few for the village chiefs, but I wish there were some more side things to do to help world build a bit more. stumbling upon quests when reaching new areas and outposts is crazy fun in most WRPGs and kinda felt lacking here. As you explore the world there are a ton of talent checks. Places that need science, lockpicking, intuition & vigor of varying levels. The game doesn't keep track of these places and for the good loot you need to find some way to remember them so you can come back later. It's a cool little something extra and sometimes they offer different paths towards your goal. The story is a little all over the place. The character building was pretty solid, but it seems the main plot waffled a bit here and there and didn't really settle too hard on anything to really drive home and left some stuff hanging. The graphics and environments were gorgeous and a ton of fun to wander around in and explore. Not sure if it was my aging PC or if the game wasn't greatly optimized, but once I found some good settings it ran pretty well. Overall, it was a great experience. Enjoy my blind playthrough.
