The Backstory :
I was invited to share this mind-blowing project. It’s a Tabletop Wargaming concept video created by Cinecore @cinecoremedia3878 : a film crew out of Philadelphia whose director (Dan Mendenhall) happens to be a fan of tabletop gaming. Miniwargamer Dave here from MWG.com, and this is how I got involved in a mega-collaboration that I believe will change tabletop gaming forever!
Many of the comments on this high-concept video said things like, “please do a battle report” and “when’s the full game coming?”
So I jump on a call with Dan and we discuss the idea of actually filming a full-fledged battle. The biggest challenge is: we’d be using a massive $300k robot arm camera rig in a film studio we’d need to pay money to rent. Oh, and it would take multiple days to film as well. I searched for collaborators from the community to be my opponent in the film.

My opponent:
Brent from Goobertown Hobbies. Now, if this is your first impression of Goobertown boy, do I ever have a treat for you.
From Explainer videos on 3D printer resin, to complete guides to painting miniatures, Brent has been contributing to the miniature wargaming hobby community on YouTube since 2018. His down-to-earth calming videos are informative and light-hearted.
The first time I saw Goobertown Hobbies? no joke, this was my reaction: “dude, we’ve got a chemist in the community man! AND he’s making explainer vids about the hobby? This is totally awesome. Check out his channel here: @GoobertownHobbies

One Page Rules (OPR)
I feel OPR has revolutionized the tabletop industry by making available their free-to-download rule sets for their tabletop games whilst also providing a space where wargamers could gain access to STL files of 3D printable miniatures.
Grim Dark Future is the tabletop game Brent and I play in this film. It’s model agnostic. I can use any miniatures as proxies for their game. They have built an impressive following and the community is continuing to expand in this area of modern tabletop gaming experiences.

The Miniatures
Dan really liked the aesthetic of the War Demons and even asked me if I could be the one to paint them up.
Meanwhile, Brent was hard at work preparing his Saurian Star host army. I was fully prepared to Slap Chop @TheHonestWargamer the paint onto these Demons but I saw how much Dan wanted to paint them so I conceded and agreed to him doing it.
Every War Demon model you see in this video was painted by Dan. He’s a massive tabletop wargaming fan AND a filmmaker. He even told me during our film shoot it was a wild dream of his to combine work and pleasure. I could feel his hobby love as he shared this with me.
For Brent’s army, he exclusively used Monument Hobbies paints on his Saurian Star host. But it feels like they’re just like us! Hobbyists who started a business that supported the hobby and they’re a bunch of dudes having a blast. I enjoy working with companies like that.
Ask me about the quality of their paints? Not a question for me, but you can Ask Goobertown. He’s a painter AND a chemist. Dare I say he’s easily amongst the most qualified people to accurately answer that question. A thing of note I could add is, I’m happy they’re sponsoring this project and are providing a production budget to create this film! I still can’t believe this is real, to be honest.

Coming up:
1) a 90-second promo teaser behind the scenes docu-style video shot by Cinecore at the bunker and show bts of the project.
2) the film itself. It documents the battle between myself and Goobertown.
Feedback:
This is where the discussion happens. I wanna hear your thoughts. Your ideas. Your questions about the project. Have you heard of OPR or used their miniatures? What do you think of them? Has your hobby experience included using paints from Monument Hobbies? If so, how were they? All this info is not only valuable to me but to others as well.
Thanks for watching, I’m MWG Dave and THIS is wargaming.
