This game was originally recorded on the channel between August and November 2017, with a three months of haitus following a saving mistake that forced me to restart the whole game in the middle of the walkthrough, something that i wasn't in the mood for immediately. Rest assured, this walkthrough aims to increase the gameplay and production values in comparison to the original 2017 walkthrough without any haituses, so sit back, relax and enjoy as we play through GTA's latest forray into the world of portable consoles with GTA: Chinatown Wars!
About Game: Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars is 2009 open-world crime video game jointly developed by Rockstar Leeds and Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. Originally released as Nintendo DS exclusive, the game was released for PSP several months after the original release in order to boost the game's sales and was eventually ported over to IOS-compatible devices in 2010 and to Android devices in 2014, being the latest GTA title developed exclusively for portable gaming systems and first such game in the series since the release of 2004's Grand Theft Auto: Advance. It is notable for radically different gameplay and visual presentation in comparison to the other GTA titles of the time, namely GTA 4 and its DLCs, with this game being designed as more advanced version of the first two games in the series with a strong emphasis on interactive touchpad controls originally meant to take advantage of NDS' touchscreen feature and utilizing a cell-shaded, comic book-like graphics due to NDS' hardware limitations. Due to this, some over-the-top gameplay elements and weapons of the 3D Universe noticably absent from realistic and gritty GTA 4 made a return in this game despite Chinatown Wars and GTA 4 being set in the same "HD Universe" continuity of GTA series started in 2008 with the release of GTA 4. Those include rampages, side jobs such as vigilante, paramedic and firefighter as well as weapons such as miniguns, chainsaws and flamethrowers. Upon release, this game was met with acclaim by the critics who praised Rockstar's ability to crunch a viable GTA experience into very weak console, but despite this, Chinatown Wars remains relatively obscure part of the series' history due to its lackluster sales in comparison to the other games in the series and its exclusivity to portable consoles. Also, soon after its release, controversy arose over the mini-game that allows players to engage into dealing of hard drugs such as cocaine and ecstacy as a side job, some of the controversy drawing from the fact that Nintendo-licenced games are usually suited for children. Despite this, Rockstar rebutted the controversy and the game remained unaltered for all post-2009 re-releases.
Story of the game is set a year after the events of Grand Theft Auto 4 and its DLCs and follows Huang Lee, a spoiled son of the Triad boss from Hong Kong who comes to Liberty City shortly after his father was killed. Huang's mission is to deliver Yu Jian, a sword and Lee family heirloom to Wu "Kenny" Lee, his paternal uncle and an underboss of Liberty City Triads since he is set to become the patriarch of Lee family due to his brother being dead and Huang still being too young for such responsibility. However, trivial delivery turns into a nightmare soon after Huang lands at Francis International Airport as him and his escorts are attacked by a group of mysterious assassins who kill the escorts during an ensuing firefight with Huang ending up grazed in the side of the head by a stray bullet and knocked out. Convinced that he is dead, assassins take Yu Jian and dump the car with Huang in it into the sea. Huang manages to escape the sinking car and get to Kenny's restaurant in Cerveza Heights, Dukes. There, he learns that the sword was actually supposed to be a gift for Hsin Jaoming, an elderly chairman of Liberty City Triads, with Kenny believing that giving him the sword would help him smooth his way into becoming Hsin's replacement at the top of Triads' hiearchy since he is preparing to retire, with the sword's theft by the attackers leaving both Kenny and Huang in difficult position with Hsin. Aware of this, Huang agrees to help his uncle find the sword and smooth over the situation with Hsin by any means necessary while also trying to uncover the mysterious attackers' possible connection to his father's murder in Hong Kong, his quest for honor and revenge quickly drawing him into Liberty City's shady underbelly...
