She is currently an undergraduate student at Carnegie Mellon University, pursuing a Bachelor of Computer Science and Fine Arts. POWRPLNT (https://www.powrplnt.org/) connects teens with established artists on free, interest-driven digital art projects and educational programs. We advocate that access to technology is a right, not a privilege. Our DIY style art space welcomes participants of all ages to our workshops on the techniques, tools, and history of new media art. Our plant-filled gallery is also a venue for art events and musical performances highlighting emerging artists and underrepresented visionaries.
Powrplnt is located at 562 Evergreen in Bushwick. As protests continue, we will be opening our space as a sanctuary site in solidarity with Black Lives Matter. We have sign-making supplies, PPE, water and snacks to pick up and use. We are operating as a rest space, as well as offering access to computers, WIFI, and a printer. We are also a donation drop-off center, and we are looking for folks who can distribute supplies at protests, man the space, teach workshops on digital security, protest safety, and surveillance, and link us to informational texts we can print. Volunteer/ Donation sign up form https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdj87HowJ6-BP2gRi7ehffnIshp4Ff1tW_WEbyJ8jJJf5C51Q/viewform. As soon as you submit this application, expect an email from DIGITAL@POWRPLNT.ORG within 24 hours with a confirmation and information on next steps. Master list of donation tracking, inventory, volunteer calendar, upcoming events, slack channel, and sanctuary spaces throughout the city can be found https://docs.google.com/document/d/1UhJQkhQCnqOkmIW5IcBdqMqXVpC_Y5R7VImthkctjss/edit.
