Guest Star: Adeleine Piggyback-less Single Segment Speedrun (38:47.94) (No Paintburst)
0I've taken to speedrunning Guest Star Mode with Dark Meta Knight and Adeleine as of late, and decided to record one of my Adeleine runs in an attempt to get the Japanese-established "Piggyback-less" category represented on the Speedrun.com leaderboard.
Piggyback-less entails that you cannot hop on a helper and control them, as with piggybacking a lot of runs prior to the Mage Sisters' introduction relied on piggybacking Meta Knight and using Scorching Shuttle Loop for speed, leaving little room for variety. I feel this isn't fair to the dream friends who have unique rooms and level setups in their adventures, so I want to encourage more people to pick up the piggyback-less category so this game's speedrunning scene can gain more traction.
Onto the run itself: Primarily for the levels, I used flying as Adeleine's basic flight is as fast as her grounded running speed (and as a result is affected by Speedups). For boss fights, I had a team of 2 Rocky's and a Vividria to use the Rock+Paint Combo to decimate bosses. For bosses where this doesn't work due to Helper AI (Goldon and Silvox for example), I use the Crystal Gun and Fairy Circle to speedkill enemies. Adeleine also has a selection of 3 boss mounts, though I typically don't use these as I have found little use for them in the route (though this may change in the future).
This run was my first all-the-way-thru run with Adeleine, so it's not as optimized as it could be. There were a couple of deaths, I lost a Rocky midway thru, and I didn't get good Helper AI on the sisters. Aside from that, this was a very good run, clocking under 39 minutes. Definitely going to aim to lower this in the future.
(EDIT: For those wondering what "No Paintburst" means, it refers to an exploit with Adeleine that allows her to beat many bosses far faster than intended. I dislike the exploit, so I prefer not to use it. If I ever do a run with Paintburst, it will not have the moniker. So you can consider this a personal subcategory.)
