According to Guinness World Records, Canadian musician The Weeknd is statistically the most popular artist in the world.
After analysing the Spotify data of some of the music industry's biggest names, the organisation bestowed the honour on the singer-songwriter on Monday.
The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, is the first and, for the time being, only artist in Spotify history to have 100 million monthly listeners. By a wide margin, The Weeknd won the top slot.
According to the Guinness World Records, the "Starboy" singer has gained an additional 111.4 million streaming fans since breaking the mark.
Miley Cyrus is the next artist on the list, with a monthly audience of 82.4 million. Shakira (81.6 million), Ariana Grande (80.6 million), Taylor Swift (80. 2 million), Rihanna (78.5 million), and Ed Sheeran trail The Weeknd (77.5 million).
At the 2023 Juno Awards in his native Canada, The Weeknd won four awards, including artist of the year and songwriter of the year for a record fourth time; single of the year for a third time; and pop album of the year (for Dawn FM).
