Gun.Smoke (Arcade) Part 4, Round 3 Ninja Boss (Brutal Game)
This part was fuckin tough. Hardest part so far in the game, as this level has a huge difficulty spike from the previous areas, especially this final stretch and boss.
I estimate this part took me somewhere between 3 and possibly over 4 hours. I got to this checkpoint in the past before my PC broke, years ago and then again recently Ive been playing it on and off.
Today I spent around 2 1/2 hours on this one part. I can offer a few tips but its mostly practice. Memorizing spawns helps but only gets you so far since twitch skill is huge in this game. This is the part of the game where many seem to quit for good. It definately seperates the better or more patient players from the rest.
After hours of playing this part you should know the basic movement patterns leading up to the boss fight. Once the boss fight got underway I didnt rely too much on spawn memorization but more on twitch skill and my familiarity with moving and shooting the boss, managing the crowds, after hours of playing.
I ended up preferring a more direct approach on attacking the boss. For a while I kept the boss in my peripheral vision while attacking all the enemies, hitting the boss as a result of constantly firing. Toward the end of my attempts I intentionally shot the boss whenever I was able. I found straight shots work the best as diagonal shots seem inconsistant in hitting this boss. You cant hit him while he is airborne. It seems you can shoot out the shurikens he throws but I mainly was dodging them as I saw them. I used to try and guess where they would land and not be there, but I found it best to play by twitch reaction for dodging and attacking everything. This got better with practice of course. Subconciously I had some understanding of where the enemies generally came out from, but its always intense as fuck.
It also helps to get all 3 power ups prior to the boss fight. For the two barrels on the bridge I strafe left as Im shooting the right barrel and focus on shooting the left barrel, then come back and finish off the right barrel. This allows me to get both before the screen scrolls all the way up. The next barrel is very easy to get.
The main thing is to clear out the enemies so you can continue attacking and dodging the boss. Dont get too frustrated as this may take hours of attempts.
We will see where the difficulty goes from here. Im using a RAV 4 Hori joystick and its fuckin great for precise movement. I ended up preferring it over the sega saturn 6 button pad for this game, which is very unusual since Im normally much better with a pad.
Stay tuned !!
