Gun.Smoke is a vertical scrolling shooter, released for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1988 by Capcom.
It is a home console adaptation of the arcade game of the same name.
This version features six levels, each with unique terrain, enemy types, and a wanted outlaw as a boss.
Players take on the role of Billy Bob, a bounty hunter who must defeat criminals to restore order to the frontier town.

The gameplay allows unrestricted movement within a vertically scrolling environment, enabling strategic positioning against enemies.
Billy Bob has a distinct shooting system, firing in three directions:
Left (Button A)
Center (Both Buttons A & B)
Right (Button B)

Unlike other shooters, Billy Bob cannot fire backward, meaning players must stay alert to enemy placement.

The game features a store system, where players can use collected money to purchase upgrades.
Items available in shops include Boots to increase movement speed, Rifles to extend firing range, and Horses, which provide temporary protection by absorbing damage.
A Wanted Poster must be obtained for each stage—either purchased or found in hidden locations—before players can confront the boss.

Billy Bob's default weapon is a standard revolver with unlimited ammunition, but special weapons can be acquired from stores:
Shotgun ($6000) – Fires a spread of five bullets.
Machine Gun ($10,000) – Allows continuous rapid-fire.
Magnum ($20,000) – Delivers high-damage shots.
Smart Bomb (Napalm Bomb) ($8000) – Eliminates all enemies in screen.

Special weapons require ammunition, which can be purchased or found in destructible barrels scattered throughout the levels.
Ammunition does not automatically refill upon purchasing an item and must be bought in increments until reaching each weapon’s storage limit.
Players can switch weapons at any time using the Select button, without needing to deplete existing ammo first.

The Napalm Bomb (Smart Bomb) functions differently from conventional firearms. Instead of firing a projectile, this item activates instantly eliminating all enemies present in the screen.

Each outlaw possesses distinct attack patterns, requiring players to observe and counter effectively.

Victory in Gun.Smoke is achieved by defeating the six wanted outlaws, restoring peace to the region. The game challenges players with strategic positioning, enemy recognition, and resource conservation, making it a rewarding experience for those who master its mechanics.
