Leveling in GW2 isn't particularly difficult. If anything, the most confusing part of leveling is just understanding where to put your traits and trying to learn what's effective.
However, this differs slightly with the elementalist. Trait allocation becomes less important than simply learning what all your skills do and how to go about combining them. Gear also comes in to play fairly strongly here too. If you feel confident, go full berserker while leveling, but if you have trouble, use some toughness or healing power.
