Our first DOUBLE EPISODE of The Dreamcast Files details two hack and slash games that finally gave me permission to just turn my brain off and hit stuff with a stick: First, "Gauntlet Legends" has a lengthy franchise history, and stays true to the delightful, relentless melee combat of its forebears, matched with a charming late-90s Midway arcade aesthetic, which gets even craziest and more fun with four players on the hook. Then, "Draconus: Cult of the Wyrm" gives us less history but just as much opportunity to blast loser monsters in the face with a sword, as Call of Duty stewards Treyarch has you navigating a charmingly stupid open-world combat game, with goofy yet satisfying battles and hilariously cheesy one-liner dialogue. Neither of these games are classics, but both do exactly what they promise, and that's a lot of fun.
