Search the platform at the temple, go to your menu and use a Return Feather. The hill in front of the platform is way too close, and the platform just so happens to drop you off towards the hill; this combination lands you halfway through the wall, the camera already underground. You can walk in and use the Steam Bike to go through the giant hole in the floor.

Once you do that, you can wander out of bounds (make sure you go just deep enough to break the minimap if that's your plan (it won't move from its current position once broken)), surprise attack any enemy without hassle, or even break into the temple, as shown here. The temple door won't be there once you enter and exit the inner door, so you don't need a second feather to escape the temple.
