Haikyuu Season 1 Review || I Lied... THIS is the GREATEST Sports Anime of All-Time \(★ω★)/
Haikyuu Season 1 is a 25 episode season of the critically acclaimed shōnen sports anime that written by Haruichi Furudate and was released for television in 2014. Haikyuu has also been licensed by Sentai Filmworks and is available for viewing on multiple streaming platforms in the US and Canada including Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. The first season of Haikyuu has received excellent reviews from Polygon, IGN, and Crunchyroll as well as members of the anime community at large, and I personally would contend that it is the GREATEST Sports Anime of All-Time!
In this review of Haikyuu Season 1, I will cover why I believe this show is the greatest Sports Anime of All-Time by providing character and plot analysis along with a nod to the production quality and soundtrack of the show.
Haikyuu Season 1 centers primarily around the men's volleyball team of Karasuno High School and their journey to re-establishing their reputation among the other schools in their region. Two particular characters end up being the primary focus of a majority of the screen time. Shoyo Hinata and Tobio Kageyama start off their stories as rivals prior to their acceptance into Karasuno High School, but can they now find a way to work together now that they are on the same team?
Haikyuu reminds me very much of how things were as I was playing organized sports back in middle school and high school. The heartache, the passion, the desire to win are all felt in this anime as we go through the characters motivations and the events of the story. As the team grows and learns from each other, so do we the audience. It reminds me so much of how I had to learn how to work together with my new teammates, even though we were from former school prior to. And is every team perfect from the very beginning? No! Haikyuu does a brilliant job of portraying the friendships that are built from the ground up, and it gives the feel that you are right there learning and growing with the team.
