* Description *
Curse: Episode One - Hells Awaits is a mod for Half-Life 2 created by Rich Douglas, Robin Arnott, József Mihalicza and Gábor Dósa. The mod is entirely in the Egyptian style, featuring temple-like environment, and very nice design. The graphics are in my opinion outstanding, and it delivers blown-away Full HDR! Your primary fire is your right hand, glowing blue, and has the ability to throw away physically based objects, as well as being able to kill mummies with an object by smashing it ti them. You must also open doors and avtivate buttons with this hand. This is by far the most used 'weapon' in-game. Your second fire is an helmet for extra protection, and a Morning-Star glowing purple. You can manually move the Morning-Star to smash it on mummies! The MS is very sensitive, a little bit of movement against a mummie and it will be killed instantly! Furthermore, there are 2 very important rooms that have to be completed:
* The Green Chamber: This is a chamber that has 3-4 grates protecting a green entrance, which leads to the clue/button to open the normally inaccessible entrance in the Red Chamber. You can open these grates by golden buttons, that you can see in the video. In normal circumstances, if you want to fully finish each Necropolis, these buttons are the first ones you are looking for (instead of just searching for the fake portals to end the level).
* The Red Chamber: This chamber has always 1 entrance that cannot be accessed as long as you haven't opened all the grates in the Green Chamber. Upon opening all the grates in the GC, a red flowing line will guide you the way to the button that has to be pressed in order to open this entrance. Once done, go to the RC and enter in it. This will finally lead to the last evil in the Necropolis, which has to be defeated in order to banish all evil. In this Necropolis, it is rather easy, just watch out for the fireballs... Push the 3 golden balls to the center, and the treasures opens! Afterwards, it's done for the first episode of Curse.
My opinion: I find this to be one of the best mods out to get for Half-Life 2. You can clearly see how much work there has been put into it, and the design is very nice! Custom weapons, materials, objects and sounds are a great pluspoint, it gives finally a whole other view of the Source Engine than always the same old Half-Life 2 models, buildings and atmosphere... Also, there are 0 bugs, no FPS drops or any like that. This is a MUST-HAVE. The only downsides are perhaps that you cannot crouch (for some reason) and that there is no real storyline, but that didn't bothered me at all (some people dislike the lack of a story). You can read the PROS and CONS for a better overall view.
[PS]: Please Do not thumb down in relation with the mod, but thumb in relation with the video, many thanks!
