''In order to express his appreciation to alyx for setting him free, the G-Man offers to "nudge" something of her choosing. he reveals that his "employers" have given him permission to periodically "nudge" the course of fate. alyx requests that the combine be expelled from earth, but the G-Man responds that this is too much to ask and would go against the interests of his "employers." instead, the G-Man gives alyx the chance to save eli by showing her the future scene in which eli is killed by a combine advisor at the conclusion of episode 2. eli is spared from death as alyx uses her gravity gloves to slay the advisor. the G-Man then clarifies that alyx has shown she is capable of succeeding gordon freeman.
at the conclusion of half-life 2: episode two, gordon regains consciousness at the white forest base of the resistance and discovers eli alive but alyx missing. eli vows to "kill that son of a bitch" after realizing that the G-Man must have abducted her. the G-Man, who is invisible to eli, is seen watching from the far end of the warehouse before leaving and dissipating. gordon's crowbar is brought by dog, the enormous robotic protector of alyx, who eli grabs and returns to him while admonishing him that they "have work to do."
