Half-Life Mods #98:Focal Point
0This one I didn't know of for an long time, Its only after I searched an obscure Half-Life mod website named Pcomos, Did I find this Opposing Force inspired mod, It's alright but in terms of difficulty and challenge, Focal Point falls flat compared to Opposing Force and Intolerable Threat.
Focal Point follows an Marine detachment investigating the downing of an helicopter near Black Mesa, Cut off from your squad the path to the "Focal Point" or escape from this operation is an long and confusing path.
Like Intolerable Threat, Focal Point was originally an Opposing Force mod but in 2010 it was converted to Half-Life while using Opposing Force's Opfor.Wad and weapons/enemies, The mapping is alright however some locations are puzzling and to progress you have to often stop and take an hard look around for vents or doors that can be gone into.
Ammo is scarce so you have to make every shot count, However (for those who have SV_cheat set to 1) you can get the weapons that are not obtained in Focal Point such as the Shockroach and Spore Launcher, Most of the time you don't have Soldier allies so you have to move carefully too.
Scripting is impressive, The author of the mod did piece together events and talking sequences very well, It's not an masterpiece by any means but Focal Point is an mod you should try at least once to enjoy something like Opposing Force..
