Long Island and Boston faced each other three times in 2009, each time the game was decided by a single goal. The rivalry was fierce, and Brian Dougherty's last second save verse Boston on July 9th 2009 proved to be one of the greatest moments of the year.

Dougherty was one of the most colorful characters the MLL has seen. Both on and off the field he exuded charisma. This save was just one of the many great moments in his illustrious career.

In his nine seasons in MLL, he set nearly every career Goalkeeper record. He is the career record-holder in games played (105), minutes played (5,945), saves (1,752), goalkeeper wins (60) is second in save percentage (.579), and third in goals against average (12.84). He was a six-time MLL all-star and MLL Goalie of the Year three times. He also won MLL Championships in 2003 with the Long Island Lizards and 2004, 2006 and 2007 with the Philadelphia Barrage.

Dougherty is one of eight lacrosse legends being inducted in to the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame Saturday October 20th 2012. Joining him are fellow MLL All-Stars Jesse Hubbard and Roy Colsey.
