Halo Infinite - Campaign Review (Xbox Series S)
I enjoyed the bulk of my time with Halo Infinite, especially when it channelled the spirit of the classic games. However, tackling just the most significant open-world activities (e.g. FOBs, Banished outposts, rescuing marine squads) quickly grew tedious and I rather pushed on with the main story.
There's been a lot of positivity towards these open-world elements, but I don't think they're the solution to the IP's waning impact. The Halo games have always provided overly-dramatic space operas that took you through a diverse range of locations. Limiting the action to a single location, no matter how large and packed with activities, leaves the experience feeling shallow and limited in scope. Halo Infinite may be the largest Halo game, yet it often feels like the least ambitious.
