Handheld Fighting Games of 95/99 - Shaq Fu (Game Gear)
The Game Gear version of Shaq Fu, released in 1995, was a handheld adaptation of the 2D fighting game starring Shaquille O'Neal. Developed by Tiertex Ltd. and published by Electronic Arts, this version retained the core storyline of Shaq traveling to another dimension to rescue a young boy named Nezu from the villainous Sett-Ra.
Compared to other versions, the Game Gear port featured only six playable characters (Shaq, Leotsu, Mephis, Rajah, Kaori, and Sett-Ra), making it even more limited than the Game Boy edition. Due to hardware constraints, it lacked a tournament mode and in-game voice effects. While retaining the side-scrolling 2D fighting mechanics, the Game Gear version omitted the additional characters and stages found in the Genesis and Amiga versions. #gaming #videogames #fightinggames
