Hans Fuller Plays Mad Father (No Commentary)
0Huh, I guess Poppy Chapter 3 came out today? I watched Astral Spiff's whole stream, it looked awesome. Gee, I should really play that game.
Anyways, I meant to play this game like half a year ago when I played Misao, Mogeko Castle, and Ib, but better late than never. So I always thought of this game as being not as good as Misao, cause they were both made by the same developer Sen. Quote from me back in September when I said I would play this game, "I don't like it that much." But wow, I REALLY loved this game the third time playing it. Like I think this is an A tier game, I love so many things about it. The item usage for puzzles, the random creepy stuff that happens all the time, the characters, the music, the rooms and their environment, I love it all. I wanted to make a game called Xenu's Haunted House back in 2022 based on this game, and that ended up becoming Sublevel 18 in Xenu 2. In fact, the foyer in this game is really close to the foyer in my game. I used the same song too, I'm shameless like that. Also, the bird you save with in this game is literally Azeeval from Carson 5. That was completely unintentional on my part, I just happened to also put a black bird with red eyes in my game, but it was fun to pretend Azeeval was in this game.
Besides the 10 or so minutes I wasted looking for the oil, I did everything else without a guide, including getting almost all the collectible gems. I remember there's two alternate endings, one where you don't get Maria's diary and the titular Mad Father turns you into a dolly. And then the other bad ending was if you choose to not save the father, Maria just kills you instead. I liked the "If" plot stuff, I'd never gotten all the gems before so seeing that stuff was brand new. I just really liked this game, I think it's better than Misao. And also, it doesn't have a bunch of r*pe in it like Misao did, so that instantly makes it 100 times better. Okay the ending with the Father recreating Aya at the end felt kind of incest-y, but besides that, much better than Misao. I never realized the doctor in Misao was literally the Mad Father.
By the way, this is the 2016 remaster of the original 2012ish game. They recently re-remastered it in 2020 and it lucks so ugly now. Like wow, it looks ugly, so I'm sticking with the original remaster shown here.
