Beyond the Mic with Bryan Bassett! From Wild Cherry to Foghat, he's a musical force to reckon with. Don't miss his insights and anecdotes.
Welcome Bryan Bassett:
We’re joined on the Starline by a guitarist, teacher, music engineer and producer. He has played with Wild Cherry, Molly Hatchet and now Foghat. We welcome Bryan Bassett.

Bryan, let’s go Beyond the Mic. Foghat is back on the road for their 52nd year bringing the blues, hard rock and boogie around the world. What makes this band so special to you?

You’ve played for many bands as a session guitarist. Which session may not have been the most famous, but was the most fun for you?

How has being a working musician, helped you as an engineer and studio manager for others?

Why does music touch your soul?

My son Ryan is a music education major at the University Of Cincinnati Conservatory. What’s one tip you would give any music major from your own experience?

He spends more time practicing percussion and his marimba than any time in the dorm.
The Rockin' 8:
It’s time for the Rockin’ 8, 8 random questions; answer with the first thing that comes to your mind. There is no Pressure.

1. Favorite beach that you enjoy?

2. One thing you always take on the road that makes you feel like you’re at home?

3. If you had to stay with one type of facial hair for the rest of your life, would you stay with the circle beard, or move to only a mustache or maybe the extended goatee?

4. What was your 1st guitar and do you still have it?

5. If you could have anything put into your rider, what would be the one thing you have to have in there?

6. What was your favorite song to teach n your contemporary rock class?

7. Musician today that inspires you not from Foghat?

8. Best song from your blues quartet Blue House?
The Back Half:
How has music changed for the better or the worse recently?

2 Grammy Nominations, an American Music Award, 2 Platinum records, 3 Gold records and many other awards dot your career. What is the one moment that you cherish from Foghat and into music?

You have played in concert with a who’s who in music. If you could put together a concert of 5 people you have played with, who would open and who would be middle acts and who would be the band or solo act that would come on before you?

When you were asked to join Foghat, how do you look back on that opportunity?

Can you talk about the friendship that you have had with Dave & the rest of the band and why it makes touring so easy for you?

Bryan, there are always great stories from the road. What’s the one story from the road that you still don’t believe happened but it did?

Who in music now makes you want to head back to engineering full time or are you happy where you are?

How did the pandemic quarantine change the way you experience your craft?
One Big Question:
Why has your love of music grown over your life and how do you want people want to remember from your time in music?

What should people expect when they see Foghat in concert now?
The Wrap:
His 1st guitar was a Harmony Rocket 1 inspired by Jeff Beck and turned down an academic scholarship to play music. Bryan Bassett, thanks for taking the time to talk with us today.

And that my friends is Beyond the Mic.
