Initially introduced as a fun little system to engage with at the end of the first raid
With the forbidden reach and Zskera vaults

Everyone complained because it was too weak and you’d only want to use it if you were really low ilvl. Part of the reason it felt so weak was because the ring itself notoriously doesn’t have any secondary stats. Its just stamina and the stones.

So Blizz started buffing the stones over the course of a couple days. Personally I think a better solution would have been to keep the stones mid in their power and add some secondaries to help bridge the gap..but instead the massively buffed the power of the stones and there were some pretty insane and broken combinations. Some of which were nerfed.. And some were not.

Ended up at a point where the ring was SO strong that it was giving huge power increases to teams progging on Raszageth and helps a lot of them actually make the cut for Halls of Fame and Cutting Edge

Going into the next raid, Aberrus, obviously there were concerns about the ring staying powerful but I was able to ask this question directly to Ion in a Q&A before the patch launched. I asked what the intended powerlevel of the annulet should be and when we can plan to replace it.

His answer was basically that it’s a fun little ring to have but it should get replaced pretty quickly once we start raiding non-entry level raid content

This clearly did not pan out as he said, and here we are, far past RWF, farming heroic and a lot of guilds are deep into mythic and the ring is still extremely good

We’re decked out in full sets of 441 & 447 gear..while wearing a 424 ring. And if you have a Erenog ring you have a 421 in that slot.

Thats a lot of missing stamina between the two.

It’s also a LOT of missing secondary stats. A Crafted ring at ilvl 447 has 717 of each stat.
We’re getting 0 of that while wearing the Annulet.

Should mention that some specs were able to replace the annulet pretty easily. But in the case of Havoc Demon Hunter, there are some very specific interactions with our talents and the way our spec works, that really pump up the effectiveness of the Annulet’s procs.

The damage procs, whether it’s the Freezing Ice Stone or the Storm Infused Stone, are hasted first and foremost. Secondly, those damage procs are affected by our talent Know Your Enemy. Meaning they can crit and when they do, they get that extra crit damage bonus.

Because the ring was so powerful and accounting for so much of a players overall damage, Blizzard had to balance classes around that.

That’s why now, when they are planning to cut all the stones power by 40%, we’re seeing all these rebalancing chances they’re having to do to compensate.

So yes, the ring IS getting nerfed in 10.1.5… But when is that exactly? Some people are speculating around mid july and that seems highly plausible to me seeing how much has gone up on the PTR already.

BUT there may actually be an opportunity for you to replace the ring already

So when we first started using the rings, we noticed that players who weren’t playing their rotation properly had better results with their rings. They’d be doing crazy amounts like 14-20% of their overall damage in a key.. This was because the ring was doing more damage in comparison to their actual skills and abilities. Potentially because they were utilizing less GCD’s or they were lining up their buffs and damage windows etc

Players who performed BETTER, saw the ring do a smaller but still substantial amount of their overall

So NOW, as we’re approaching 440+ ilvl our character’s damage is scaling up at a certain rate. Our secondary stats are going up and our primary stat has increased drastically from when we were decked out in Vault of The Incarnates gear.

This affects the difference between the damage of our abilities and the damage of the annulet

What we’re seeing now, is that when you’re gear is high enough (generally no earlier than 440 ilvl) and you have max ilvl rings to add to your sim - that’s when your Annulet will be able to get swapped out for something with REAL secondary stats and proper amounts of stamina - which feels great.

So as you gear up and you get access to rings, make sure you keep simming and eventually you’ll get to the point where you can replace it… Hopefully before it gets nerfed, just out of principal 🙂
