ON THE STATUS OF DRAYMOND GREEN: “I think Draymond’s playing. He went through shootaround and he should be good to go, but we’ll let him warm up and confirm after that. Should be good to go.”
ON THE DECISION TO FIRST START ALEN SMAILAGIĆ IN SANTA CRUZ: “He just needs to play. He missed all of training camp. I think he got hurt on the second day of training camp. He plays the one position that we actually have plenty of depth, so it makes a lot more sense to start in Santa Cruz and work his way into shape and get his legs underneath him.”
ON THE LOOMING ROSTER DECISION WITH KY BOWMAN’S TWO-WAY CONTRACT: “It’s pretty early on that front. The good thing with the Two-Way contract is that it is binding for the year. If we run out of days, which we probably will at some point, we’ll have him in Santa Cruz and we can bring him back up when the Santa Cruz season ends and then we would have his rights through restricted free agency this summer. We are in a relatively good position in terms of his future, but we would like to have him on the floor here playing for us because he’s been so effective. That’s going to be tricky just because of the hard cap. Right now we are more concerned with counting his days then we are with anything else. We’ll try to be careful on this trip. If we have any light practices we will probably hold him out, so we don’t use a day. That way we can buy a few days here and there. Sometimes things have a way of working out that you don’t foresee and maybe that will happen. I don’t know.”
ON KLAY THOMPSON’S NBA RECORD 14TH THREE AGAINST THE BULLS LAST SEASON: “I remember the floodgates opened up because he had been been really struggling before that game. A few times since I've been here, he’s started out slowly in the season and then obviously he always turns it around. That was the game that sort of opened everything up for him. One thing that got lost was that Alfonzo McKinnie had a career high in front of his whole family just down the street from his house basically. I also remember Klay’s 14th three was very uncomfortable. We had a big lead in the third and he was searching, launching and all his teammates wanted him to get it. It was one of those uncomfortable moments as a coach. You want your player to get a record, but don’t want to do it the wrong thing. It was a little dicey. I texted Fred Hoiberg after the game and he was great. I was relieved when Klay made the last one. Just yet another incredible shooting night from Klay. Of which, there have been many.”
