- iPhone or iPad that supports Face ID and iOS 13 (or later)
- Phone stand
Step 1) Download and install the Beam iOS app and the Beam PC software
- Download the Eyeware Beam iOS app from the app store. As you are installing the app, you will be asked to enter your email address to receive the download link for the accompanying PC software installer. Download and install the software on your PC.
Step 2) Connect the iPhone/iPad and Windows PC over USB or Wi-Fi
Eyeware Beam works when your iPhone or iPad and Windows PC (Windows 10 or above) can communicate together over USB or Wi-Fi.
USB Connection (Recommended): Download and install iTunes for PC to enable the USB connection. USB connection reduces CPU usage of the iOS app by 20% and offers a more stable connection in comparison to Wi-Fi.
Wi-Fi Connection: Verify that your PC and iOS device are both connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
Step 3) Select the PC monitor you want to use with eye and head tracking
- Head and eye tracking will only work on one PC monitor. Designate the PC monitor you will use as the main display if you are using multiple monitors.
Step 4) Start the Eyeware Beam PC software
- If the PC software does not automatically start after installation, locate the Beam installer file in your PC downloads folder to start it.
Step 5) Follow the PC software onboarding instructions
- You will see a welcome screen when you open the software for the first time. Click next.
Click next once again to confirm that your iOS device and PC are on the same Wi-Fi network or connect with USB.
Step 6) Enter and save your IP address in the PC software as prompted
- Enter the IP address that is shown on your iPhone or iPad Beam app screen to the PC software when prompted. Click Save. Click next.
Step 7) Place your iPhone or iPad in a stable position next to your PC
- Watch the video on the right or follow the visual guide within the PC software to correctly place your iOS device relative to the PC monitor that you selected to use head & eye tracking. Use a phone stand to achieve optimal positioning and stability. Any type of mount will work, as long as the iPhone or iPad remains in a stable position.
Step 8) Match the device positioning you chose in the PC software
- The PC software provides multiple device placement options. Select the position that most closely represents the real-life placement of your iOS device relative to your PC monitor or laptop screen. Click on the iPhone icon to match the orientation of the selfie camera notch to the actual orientation of your iOS device.
Step 9) Calibrate iPhone or iPad tracking in the PC software
- Before starting any tracking, you must complete this calibration. Ensure that you set the following conditions for optimal performance.
Step 10) Click the 9 calibration points in the PC software
- Move your mouse to the center of each of the hexagons appearing and click on it while looking at it. Take your time and make sure to not blink when you click.
Step 11) Click finish to turn your iPhone or iPad into an eye and head tracker
- You successfully calibrated your iPhone or iPad when you see the two purple circles moving inside the rectangle following your head pose. This indicates that both eye and head tracking is working and is active.
