My personal Thoughts on HS: Battlegrounds:
Recently Hearthstone added a brand new game mode called Battlegrounds, as you can take from the title it is a Battle Royale style game mode but for hearthstone. The reception of the game mode has been very positive, people have been comparing it to Auto Chess, and games of that style. Today, I am going to be breaking down the new mode, along with telling you my personal thoughts on it as well.

So the way battlegrounds works is that 8 players, including you, slowly recruit minions and face off each other until there is only one person left standing. You begin by recruiting a minion, or two. Each minion costs 3 mana regardless of the tier (or how good a card is). As the game progresses you can upgrade the tier of your cards, along with upgrading three of a kind cards and so on. After everyone recruits, you go into combat mode, which is you and another player face off against each other with your boards. The minions attack randomly from left to right, until someone wins, you lose if you have no more minions. If you win you deal a certain amount of damage to the enemy hero. This goes on and on until there is only one person left.
So let’s dive into my personal thoughts on it. Right of the bat I must say I was skeptical of the game mode, it seemed a bit stale, but after playing it myself I can say that it is a lot of fun, and it’s also very addicting. There’s something fun about seeing your board win, as you constantly get better and better minions. I also like how you can play with one other person, this makes the game mode even more interesting as you get into battles with your friends. I would personally love to see some kind of party system for the mode, I think that maybe having 3-4 friends in one game would be fun, even if it’s just a custom mode, I think it can be even funner that way.

Moving on to the core gameplay, there are some quality of life changes that would take this mode to another level. First off, I think the game is in need of a history bar, I know there is a lot going on in the screen, but I would like to see what happened in a history log, maybe at the bottom of the screen where you click a scroll or something and it pops out with the history. Additionally, I think the game needs a “Ready” button, they game starts off with 20 second intervals of recruiting minions, and slowly it increased in time until near the end you are waiting over a minute and half. I think that players should be able to press ready, if everyone ‘ready’s up’ it immediately goes into combat. I’m sure there would be times where this will not make a difference, but I think it wouldn’t hurt to have a feature like this.
Let’s move on to the game’s issues. The mode as it stands right now, is completely dominated by 4 types of boards, Mechs, Demons, beasts, and Murlocs. There is no reason not to pick certain cards over others, which makes experimenting and things like that nonexistent. Now it is still early days, and I know they will add other cards, and cardtypes like elementals, dragons, and pirates, but I really hope that there will be some kind of diversity, and room for experimenting, or trying other stuff, instead of just having to pick the power creeps like Junkbot, or security rover if you really want to win. But I guess it is unfair to judge too quickly. I just hope that this mode doesn’t fall into the hearthstone ladder trap of one defined meta. I would also love to see cards that offer a mix, like if you have 3 different kinds of minions the card has an effect or something like that.
Apart from this, Battlegrounds is a very fun game mode, and it’s probably the best thing that’s happened to hearthstone since the solo adventures. I look forward to seeing what else they add in the future.

Thanks for watching! Let me know the in the comments what you think of the new game mode. If you enjoy the videos please hit that subscribe button, and notification bell. I really appreciate all the comments, and likes. Thank you so much.
