Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is an upcoming digital collectible card game from Blizzard Entertainment.[1][2] It was announced in a presentation by Rob Pardo at the Penny Arcade Expo in March 2013.[3] The game is currently in a closed beta,[4] with the release sometime during 2013.
Hearthstone is a free-to-play game set in the Warcraft universe, supported by the purchase of booster packs.[5] It will be initially available on Microsoft Windows and Mac operating systems, with an iPad version available later, and possibly expanding to other platforms after launch.[6] There will be around 300 cards in the game to start, with more added later; booster packs can either be earned in-game or bought.[7] Each pack comes with five random cards, including at least one "rare".[5] Players can choose one of nine "heroes" which are similar to the classes in World of Warcraft.[5] The game is based around 1v1 matches and will operate through Blizzard's Battle.net.[5] There are currently no plans for cards to be traded between players.[6]
The Arena mode, which costs money or gold gained in-game, has the player making a deck from pre-selected cards (different every time) and you use this deck to battle other players -- each win makes your prize better, while three losses ends your Arena play.
From the beginning, the game was designed to be solely played online and to mimic the feel of physical cards; the game starts with your opening a tactile box, during gameplay the cards waver and move while in your hand, and cards when played slam down on the board. Hearthstone also offers interactive boards, a new feature among CCGs. The boards on which the cards played can be interacted with in various ways, although the feature is purely for entertainment value and has no effect upon gameplay.[8]dium=youtube
