β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Pros:
βœ… good (but not great) looking pixel art graphics

βœ… the way enemies damage (and kill) each other can be very cool

βœ… interesting play mechanics

Cons:
❌ can be frustratingly difficult, with randomized enemy placement and patterns

❌ jumping feels a tad floaty

❌ hit box of sword sometimes feels a bit short

Verdict:πŸ‘Good if you like a challenge and you can get it on sale. The game itself seems to have a lot of potential, but its randomized enemy placement and patterns unnecessarily increase the difficulty and can lead to frustration. On the plus side, the controls are good enough that it's very playable, and the way enemies often damage and kill each other can be really cool. It feels more realistic that way, rather than the traditional approach where all the enemies get along and your character seems to be the only target. At it's full retail price of $14.99, Heidelberg 1693 feels a bit expensive, but if you can get it on sale (I recently got it for less than $5) it becomes a much better proposition.

[First Play Impressions is a new format I'm trying out, and I'd love to know if you found the above information interesting and informative. Let me know in the comments.]
