Hermits Quarters - 12 Rules for Gaming! Rule #7 Cheating is fun but it can ruin your long term Goals
John (griffinmills) with rule 7. We will discuss what is meant by cheating, fun and long term goals.
Like a lot of things in this series, cheating is complicated and is a case by case topic. We will touch on morality of cheating in Multiplayer and Singleplayer and what even is a, "cheat."
For those of you who have watched the video I'll put the Demon's Souls story in here as it was cut for brevity. Demon's Souls on PS3 had a cheat (a proper glitch or bug) that allowed you to duplicate any item. This let you play through the game once or twice and get all the achievements and trophies rather than grinding through over and over. This is a case that touches muliplayer (trophies tracking) and obviously singleplayer gaming as well. It also gets into game design philosophy topic I touch on in the sense of the grind asked. It also gets to the topic of long term gaming goal of getting better. I'll say this, if the game did NOT have the cheat, I wouldn't have stuck with it as long as I did and ultimately get invested in every sequel and follow up ever made. Navigate THAT quagmire folks! Was cheating good? Was it long term? Was it immoral or "wrong?" PHEW!
