In this video we play game number 56 in the Lemon64 top 100 (as of August 31st 2014) H.E.R.O. - Helicopter Emergency Rescue Operation. Published in 1984 by Activision this game was first release on the Atari and then ported to many systems. This port came from The Softworks however the original game was made by John van Ryzin.

This game still holds up well today with good controls (for the most part) and it run smoothly. There is a little lag when you try to take off but I suppose that makes sense from a physics point of view. You take on the role of Roderick Hero going down into mines where accidents have happened to save the trapped miners below! There are spiders and snakes and all kinds of baddies who don't really WANT to stop you, but they do want to protect themselves from predators which they think you are isn't nature wonderful.
Equipped with a helicopter back pack a blaster and a few sticks of dynamite (someone call workplace safety!) you set off alone into each mine to mount the rescue. You can use your blaster to destroy the innocent creatures that live in the mine before they kill you and the dynamite to blast your way past walls of rubble cause by cave ins. Your helipack is very important in making sure you don't rush into a screen from the wrong entrance as you can easily smash the lanterns that are lighting your way forcing you to stumble in the dark to find the correct path.
All in all this game holds up really well for a game of the era and is definitely worth playing yourself!
