In a 5e homebrew campaign that I'm in, one of the players is a Oath of the Crown Paladin, and follows a Warhammer style God Empress. His country was once held in slavery to high elves, but thanks to the God Empress, the elves were driven out of the country. The country, now vastly underpopulated, sends out missionaries to basically advertise for the county and get people to move there. That is the mission of the paladin. He also believes that any children he makes along the way are almost guaranteed to follow his faith and move to his country.

Since we've started, we've met four different gods in our travels. One of which the paladin punched for mocking his faith. Another of which tried to possess him leading to the sea goddess healing his mind. He believes that he has fallen in love with this goddess, and wishes to court her. The DM, has since given him a ritual he can use to communicate with her for a short time.

Now here's the issue, and where the two disagree. The DM has imposed a very high persuasion DC to seduce with disadvantage despite the paladin pouring his heart out over RP. The DM does this because he believes paladins should not associate with other faiths, and is considering breaking the paladin's oath. The paladin argues that he sees the sea goddess as only a woman, and that he wasn't even given a chance.
