Hi-Gate is a British musical duo consisting of two well-known figures in the electronic music world: Judge Jules and Paul Masterson. Judge Jules, whose real name is Julius O’Riordan, is one of the most renowned DJs and music producers in the UK.
His career began in the 1980s, and since then, he has become an icon of club music, particularly in the house and trance genres. He is known for hosting radio shows, including a popular program on BBC Radio 1, where he promoted new club music.

Paul Masterson, the second member of the duo, also known under the pseudonym Yomanda, is renowned for his unique musical style that blends elements of trance and house. He is an acclaimed producer and DJ, known for numerous musical projects and collaborations with other artists.

Together as Hi-Gate, they created music that combined their individual styles and experiences, resulting in many successful productions.

In 1998, Paul sent Judge Jules a copy of a track he had just completed, which later became known as "Yomanda – Synth and Strings". Jules noticed that the phone number in the track had the same area code as his own, from the Highgate area in London. Jules called Paul and suggested removing the vocals from the track.

Later, Jules received the track without vocals. As a result of Jules playing the track on his Radio 1 show, it reached the top ten of the UK charts.

They then decided to start collaborating, creating tracks like "Pitchin'" and "Caned and Unable". Their performances led to appearances on Top of the Pops the following year. Later, they released "I Can Hear Voices", which featured vocals by Jina.

They later worked with Boy George on tracks "Out of Fashion" and "Poverty", which were included on their album "Split Personality" released in 2003.
