117 Days to Die has been in alpha for at least 17 years (go fact check me, I dare you), and if you ask around, alpha 16.4 is the best version. Oct 26. 2017, or almost five years ago, alpha 16.4 was released. In light of the upcoming alpha 21 and its changes I'm going to hate (probably), what's it like to play the beloved alpha 16.4 almost five years later? Has it aged well? How does alpha 16.4 compare to alpha 20? Are there things that are better in alpha 16.4? Let's play some 7 Days to Die alpha 16.4 in 2022 and find out!
This series is being played at straight up vanilla settings: medium difficulty, all regular settings EXCEPT for supply drops are listed on the map. Since I can't find any mods I want to use for this version, we're going vanilla until I'm able to dig up the HUD I used to use because the vanilla one is awful.

7 Days to Die alpha 16.4 was a game changer for this game. Before the game was changed in all sorts of ways... again. Alpha 16, technically, introduced most of the new stuff while .1 - .4 just fixed things. That said, alpha 16 introduced electricity, painting, wolves, feral zombies, and too many things to mention because by the time you get through the list, most of them are changed either before or by alpha 20. To what end?
