Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds is the latest kart racing game from Sonic Team and Sega. It revamps the classic Sonic racing formula by introducing innovative mechanics like Travel Rings, which warp racers mid-race into new environments, enriching gameplay with dynamic shifts and strategic unpredictability
This game fuses elements from previous Sonic racers: transforming vehicles (à la Sonic & All‑Stars Racing Transformed) and hoverboard-style Extreme Gear (from Sonic Riders). Almost every racing component—from characters to vehicles—can be customized, allowing personalized combinations of stats like speed, acceleration, and handling.
The signature mechanic: after lap one, the leading racer picks a Travel Ring to warp all players into one of 15 CrossWorlds for lap two before returning to the original track on lap three. These warped zones alter terrain, feature dynamic obstacles, and often require vehicle switching—from car to plane or hoverboard.
