High speed pursuit of an assault suspect, shots fired from police.
This bodycam footage picks up with 0435 | Deputy Sergeant Kuznetsova arriving on scene to aid fellow Deputy, 0437 | Deputy Sergeant Street to search the area of Paleto Bay for a vehicle that's been driven by a suspect wanted Assault on an LEO/EMS in multiple counts, Reckless Felony Evade, Resisting arrest, Speeding 100+, and Hit and Run with Bodily Harm. The suspect struck Sergeant Kuznetsova's vehicle knocking her down and causing minor cuts, and bruising earlier on off dashcam; thus adding to his assault on a LEO/EMS charge, hit and run with bodily harm and possibly aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Deputy Kuznetsova can be seen sweeping down Paleto Blvd, in search of the vehicle, working with the fellow deputy to make sure the entire area goes searched. It is noted that around the time of the sweep, no other visual had been seen neither by surrounding units, or witnesses at the time of the vehicle leaving Paleto Bay, which gives the Deputies even more reason to believe the car never left the small area. Upon meeting up with Sergeant Street, Sergeant Kuznetsova breaks off down Procopio Drive, searching down driveways, back yards, and side alleyways for the vehicle. Upon reaching the end of Procopio Drive, the vehicle would emerge from the left hand side of the dashcam from a private residence. It's noted that officers later went back to the residence to confront the property owner, whom was gone at the time of the incident. They had no recollection of the vehicle, nor person(s) involved. Deputy Sergeant Kuznetsova quickly radios in her status and attempts a traffic stop on the vehicle, to set up for a high risk stop until her back up can arrive on scene. The White in color Vagner is seen stopping in the center of Procopio Drive, right out front of Beakers Repair shop. The Driver can be heard from the deputy's dashcam screaming something to them in reply to the loudspeaker request to vacate the vehicle. They'd fail to comply, and once they see assisting Sergeant Street coming up behind at a high rate of speed to cut them off; the suspect decided to floor it and push Sergeant Street's cruiser into a nearby ditch, through a fence, temporarily disabling it by using the inertia he had built up to pin him in, with one swift maneuver. Deputy Kuznetsova starts off after the suspect vehicle, which at this point is headed southbound down the Great Ocean Highway and is heavily damaged with smoke bellowing from underneath the engine cover. Deputy Sergeant Kuznetsova is quick and accurate in her callouts making sure dispatch knows exactly what's playing out in the chase, even for assisting officers not yet on scene to have a pretty good idea of how the chase is unfolding. Before long, the Sergeant loses Visual contact with the suspect. Note that this would be just after the tunnel, before grapeseed junction. A very lucky glimpse out of the Sergeant's eye would reveal the suspect vehicle damaged heavily and parked in a ditch in a crude attempt to escape police by hiding in plain sight. First, Sergeant Kuznetsova flips around, then Sergeant Street follows suit realizing Deputy Kuznetsova is still following the suspect's trail. As the female deputy arrives on the new scene of a possible MVA, a Caucasian male dressed in brown with dark pants and a white shirt, red hair, and off tone facial hair emerges from behind the vehicle and starts to run over the hill, back toward Grapeseed, out of view. Sergeant Kuznetsova hops out of her cruiser, calling a 10-70 and proceeding to follow the suspect's trail into what appears to be the back of some resident's farm house. Sergeant Kuznetsova is stumped; it would appear her suspect up and vanished. She searches for him for a few seconds, before she is hit from behind. Her hat and glasses go flying and she stumbles back, dazed by what just happened. The Deputy turns around in a split second, as if it's almost second nature, and tries to move back and away from the danger she cannot see. Suddenly, through some unexplained event; the suspect she had seen previously fleeing appears before her and tries to take another swing. Sergeant Kuznetsova already had her service weapon drawn and pointed. It is assumed the had expecting contact already, once crossing the hill, although unclear just what happened to cause the suspect to appear so abruptly in the Sergeant's view. Startled and unsure if the suspect has a weapon, both her, and her colleague open fire on the suspect. A medical report from Pillbox medical center deemed that the suspect suffered minor injuries despite his contact with police, along with deputies that suffered minor cuts, and bruises through out this altercation. The suspect was later identified to be "Zach Dollar", a resident out of California in his mid-20's with a laundry list of offenses since his 18th birthday.
This incident occurred at approximately 5:02 EST. on 7/18/2021.
