More info on the hike: We did this pemi-loop at the beginning of October 2018, having already dipped our toes into back country hiking. We arrived around 2pm (after a 5 hour drive), and the park staff were concerned we'd be getting into camp after dark. They were right, but it wasn't an issue for us since we had head-lamps. In fact, it turned out amazingly well, since we summited Mt. Flume at dusk, and saw that beautiful sunset.

The overall length was 52k, and 18,000 ft of elevation change. We did it over 4 days and 3 nights. Temperatures varied from -3 to 15 Celsius. Something that set this hike apart from others we've done, was that you could occasionally see across the valley to the other side of the loop, tracking by eye where you've come from. It definitely pushed us to our limits, and in retrospect I would have packed a sleeping bag liner, but less water weight.
