"Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard" (2021) directed by Patrick Hughes is an extremely funny and endearing sequel. However it offers poor continuity and a complete lack of character development so I would say it's not as good as the first personally.

Michael (Ryan Reynolds) is single and depressed again. He "graduates" therapy and gives up being a bodyguard. Sonia (Salma Hayek) finds Michael after misunderstanding her husband's request to save him. INTERPOL agent Bobby O'Neill (Frank Grillo) forces the three of them to team up and try to stop a terrorist named Aristotles Papadopolous (Antonio Banderas).

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is definitely worth your time and is an excellent watch for the family if you are all adults. It is very funny, potentially even more funny than the previous film. Everything that you loved about the first one is present here. Sonia getting more of a spotlight is the biggest strength of this compared to the first.

Where the film goes wrong is contradicting statements, a forgettable main plot and villain, a complete lack of continuity, and the over reliance on using Michael as a punching bag. The contradicting statements were moments like when Darius (Samuel L. Jackson) tells Michael not to let "someone who doesn't share your DNA define you," literally a few minutes after discussing with Sonia the idea of adoption because he can't have kids of his own . . . And also when Darius gets Michael to shout "I don't need a bodyguard license" and then ends up getting super excited when he thought he got one at the end. The complete lack of continuity is due to the fact that Michael's ex-girlfriend who he is supposed to be dating has vanished out of existence and he is inexplicably single again, as well as the fact Michael & Darius' relationship has went backwards and they hate each other again despite their shared bonding and experiences in the previous film. Using Michael as a punching bag was admittedly very funny, but it also essentially destroys and undermines him as a character since he is nothing more than a comedic relief at this point, despite all of the lessons he was supposed to be learning and self improvement.

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is simultaneously a good and bad sequel. It's good because it carries over every element you loved, and it puts one of the funniest characters Sonia in center stage this time, but it's bad because it's overly stupid and nonsensical for the sake of humor.
