Hogwarts Legacy is a 2023 action role-playing game developed by Avalanche Software and published by Warner Bros. Games under its Portkey Games label. The game, part of the Wizarding World franchise, takes place in the late 1800s, a century before the events chronicled in the Harry Potter novels. The player controls a student enrolled in the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry who learns to wield magical abilities and objects. With the assistance of fellow students and professors, the protagonist embarks on a journey to unearth an ancient secret concealed within the wizarding world.

Meet Eldritch Diggory
You will receive an Owl Post letter from Lenora Everleigh stating that a portrait in the Hufflepuff common room wishes to speak with you, Eldritch Diggory (the former Minister of Magic).
Head to the Hufflepuff common room and speak with the portrait to the left of the entrance/exit. Eldritch explains that you can likely help him solve a decades-old murder mystery, and in exchange, he can help you find the missing pages from the book you've found. Someone went missing, and someone was charged with murder with no evidence, and those missing pages could forgive them. He tells you his great niece Helen Thistlewood can give you extra details, and you'll need to speak to her in Upper Hogsfield. Speak to Helen Thistlewood
Heading to Upper Hogsfield, he speaks to Helen in her cottage, and she explains a boy named Richard Jackdaw went missing, going to meet a girl named Anne. His headless ghost was spotted shortly after that. Due to a ludicrous alibi involving Jackdaw stealing pages of the book from Peeves and a woman named Apollonia Black giving potentially false testimony, Anne was condemned to life in Azkaban.
Helen explains that Anne, though a shell of her former self, has most likely deciphered some of the puzzles that Jackdaw laid out before his death and that you should speak with her to see what can gleaned.
Arriving in Azkaban
Agreeing to go with Helen, you both Apparate straight to Azkaban. Almost immediately, a group of Dementors descends upon you, and Helen protects you both with Expecto Patronum.
Proceed down the hallway and speak to Anne in her cell, who reveals that Jackdaw hid something in a vault within some ruins near Upper Hogsfield. Before you depart, Anne swipes at Helen, injuring her, before you both Apparate back to Upper Hogsfield.
Helen, wounded, tells you to go on before Apparating away again.
Finding What Jackdaw Left Behind For Anne
Proceed down the hill ahead of you, past the dam, to the entrance of a small cave.
Once inside, you'll arrive in a small room with several wrungs you can pull on with Accio. Only a few will remain out once pulled; an incorrect interaction will reset them all. Use Revelio to turn certain ones blue, denoting the ones you must pull out with Accio to open the gateway ahead.
In the now accessible room, in the immediate left corner, is a Jackdaw's Clue scroll on a pedestal. With the scroll collected, leave the vault, and you'll immediately encounter Richard Jackdaw's ghost. You both catch each other up on how you came here and what became of Anne. Jackdaw says he must speak with Helen to discuss Anne and the actualities of his disappearance, potentially to clear her name.
Before he leaves, he says he can help you get the book's pages back, as they are likely still with his body somewhere deep within the Forbidden Forest. As the conversation ends, the quest concludes.

As of 5 May 2023, revenue crossed $1 billion, and 15 million copies were sold globally. Hogwarts Legacy received generally favorable reviews from critics, with praise for its combat, world design, characters, and faithfulness to the source material, but criticism for its technical problems and lack of innovation as an open-world game.
The game's first quest introduces the Ancient Magic capabilities of your player character, debuting characters like Professor Fig and the villainous Ranrok and giving you your first few spells to test out!
